Radishes

These are the radishes TJ and I harvested yesterday.

I harvested a few other radishes about two weeks ago, but I had a hard time keeping them fresh. As it turns out, radishes have a short live if you keep the tops on them. I cut the tops off of these, and I'm storing them on a high humidity setting in my fridge. From what I've read, that should keep them fresh for at least a week or two.

Random serving suggestion:
Slice radish and serve on top of sausage and crackers. It adds a nice spicy flavor to compliment the savory sausage.

An Example, But It Really Happened

This evening Jim and I watered and did a bit of weeding.  We harvested some overgrown radishes.  It looks like there are lots of greens ready for the picking and a lot of other things seem to be coming along well.  I'd like to plant more radishes is the bare-ish section of soil on the southeast corner of the garden.  In other news, the compost piles are putting off heat and that's pretty nifty if you ask me.  I'll probably mow the garden lawn again whenever I bring clippings from my own yard over...so probably Sunday afternoon.  After mowing I'll likely water, weed, maybe pick a few beans if they're ready.  It should be a good time.

Blog Purpose

The idea behind this blog is to give people a way to discuss the goings on of the Sustain Mizzou backed community garden (Sustain-A-Garden) at the corner of East Ash and St. Joseph.  As an example,  you can post here whenever you do something in the garden like planting or watering to let others know what needs to be done and what needs to be left in the ground.  Also, if you are planning on doing something or want to plan to do something with other people this blog could be a valuable organizational/informational tool.  But wait there's more!  Pictures, stories, recipes and any bits of wisdom you might have are more then welcome and would certainly keep the space from becoming to ho-hum and businesslike.
